Information Seminar on Penal Code 2014

Maldives Judicial Academy has begun a seminar to acquaint Registrars and legal staff of the courts to the Penal Code of the Maldives 2014.

The seminar which will be held from the 8-11 of December is being attended by 27 participants including registrars and legal staff from the High Court and the Superior courts of the Maldives.

In addition to creating awareness on the Penal Code, the seminar will shed light on the enforcement of the legislation within the Criminal Justice System and focus on familiarizing participants to the conceptual aspects of the Penal Code as well as the fundamentals and principles governing the legislation.

Facilitators at the seminar include, the Acting Chancellor of the Maldives Judicial Academy, Uz. Ahmed Majid, Justice at the High Court, Uz. Abdul Raoof Ibrahim, and Judge at the Criminal Court, Uz. Adam Arif. Participants of the seminar will be awarded with certificates by the Maldives Judicial Academy.

The Judicial Academy held a similar program last month for the magistrates of Alifu Alifu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Laamu and Thaa Atoll. Thirty two participants received certificates on the conclusion of the program which was held in Nilandhoo of Faafu Atoll.

The Judicial Academy of the Maldives was established by the Supreme Court of the Maldives with the mandate to carryout continuing judicial education programmes for the Judges, lawyers and other administrative staff of the judiciary. The academy conducts academic symposiums, colloquiums, seminars, workshops as well as study tours, orientation programs and induction programs.
