Criminal Court Receives a Record Number of Cases in 2016

Cases sent to the Criminal Court from the Prosecutor General’s Office in 2016 has recorded a significant increase from 2015.
Statistics indicate that most cases received by the Criminal Court from the Prosecutor General’s Office this year were completely new.
In 2015, the PG Office sent 806 cases to the Criminal Court. The figure has increased to 1563 to date in 2016, which is a 93% increase from 2015.
Most of the cases received by the Criminal Court from the Prosecutor General’s Office were during the latter half of 2016; which include 241 cases in October, 140 cases in November and 210 cases to date in December.
From 4-10 December 2016 alone, the Criminal Court received 114 cases from the PG Office, which is 96% of cases filed at the court. Save for 163 cases which were sent back for rectifications, the Criminal Court registered all the cases received by the court.
