Case Management Report of the First Quarter of 2017 Published

Case management report of the courts for the first quarter of 2017 has been published. A brief of the important points noted from the case management report is given below.

In relation to the first quarter of 2016,

  • There was a 15% increase in the number of cases registered in the lower courts in first quarter of 2017.

 

  • Cases registered in the superior and magistrate courts in the first quarter of 2017 also saw an increase. There was a 35% increase in the number of cases submitted to the superior courts and a 3% increase in the number of cases submitted to the magistrate courts.

 

  • There was a drop of 21% in cases concluded by the lower courts in the first quarter of 2017.

 

  • There was also a decrease in the number of cases concluded by the superior and magistrate courts in the first quarter of 2017. There was a 3% decrease in the number of cases concluded by the superior courts and a 31% decrease in the number of cases concluded by the magistrate courts.

 

  • The case clearance rate of the first quarter of 2017 stands at 76%.

 

  • There was a 22% increase in the number of cases cleared in the first quarter of 2017 when compared to the same period of 2016.

 

  • 88% of cases in pending at the lower courts during the first quarter of 2017 are cases with a pending duration less than 1 year.
