355 Cases Cleared and 440 Hearings held from 02 to 08 October 2016

Looking at the performance of the Courts in the week of 02 to 08 October, a total of 355 cases were cleared and 440 hearings were held. The High Court and the Superior Courts cleared 154 cases and the Magistrate Courts cleared 201 cases.

The result shows that on an average, 1.6 cases were concluded by each Magistrate within that week. The case clearance rate for the week of 25 September to 01 October stood at 139% and the case clearance rate for the week of 02 to 08 October stands at 79%. The fall in the case clearance rate in the week of 02 to 08 October is due to the week having only 4 official working days.

In the week of 02 to 08 October a total of 13 Magistrates were on leave. While one Magistrate was away during the  week, 14 were on sick leave. 10 Magistrates were on a 1 day sick leave and 2 Magistrates were on sick leave for 4 days.

Currently there are 7 Judges in the High Court. The Superior Courts have a total of 38 Judges. And at present there are 129 Magistrates in the Maldives.
