134 Attorneys Sworn-In

134 lawyers were sworn-in last night in accordance with the Regulation on Issuing License to Practice Law in the Maldives and Articles 4 and 5 of Ruling No. 03/SC-RU/2015 of the Supreme Court, in a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge.

The oath was administered by Justice Honorable Uz. Abdulla Areef of the Supreme Court and the licenses to practice law in the Maldives were handed out by the Attorney General Uz. Mohamed Anil.

Chief Justice Honorable Uz. Abdulla Saeed and the Attorney General addressed the inductees in the ceremony which was attended by the Judges of the Supreme Court, the High Court, the Superior Courts, State Attorneys from the Attorney General’s Office and staff of the Judiciary.

The new members of the legal fraternity include graduates of LLB, Bachelor of Sharia’ or Combined Bachelor’s Degree from the Faculty of Sharia’ and Law of the Maldives National University, Faculty of Sharia and Law of the Maldives Islamic University, Villa College and other accredited overseas universities.

The inductees will initially practice as trainee lawyers. They would move on to practice law in the courts of the Maldives once they complete the procedures laid out in the Regulation on Issuing License to Practice Law in the Maldives. Trainee lawyers are those who have not worked for more than a year at a legal firm, or in a legal division or section of the public or private sector and those who have not completed the orientation program conducted by the Maldives Judicial Academy to acclimatize fresh lawyers to the legal and judicial systems of the Maldives.
